What is Italian Town?

Italy Town is part of a redevelopment area in Shiodome, Minato Ward, Tokyo, where the town is being developed with an Italian theme. With its cobblestone streets, Renaissance-style buildings, squares and fountains, you’ll feel like you’re in Italy. There are many restaurants, cafes, hotels, and shops where you can eat, shop, and stay overnight. In addition, events are held regularly in Italy Town, such as the Neapolitan Pizza Summit and classic car rally, which are popular.

Route to Italy Town

I rode my bike from central Tokyo to Italy Town. Below is the route I chose.

  • From Shiba Park, head towards Shibaura and run along the coastline.
  • Turn towards Shiodome and enter Shiodome Siosite.
  • Italy Town is located in the 5th ward of Shiodome Siosite.

This route is about 10km and takes about 20 minutes. The coastal road has a nice view and is pleasant, but there are many traffic lights and you often have to stop. The Shiodome Siosite has a complex road structure, so it is convenient to use a navigation system.

There are many things to see in Italy Town, but I especially recommend the following three.

Shiodome Nishi Park

Shiodome Nishi Park is a park located in the center of Italy Town, and its design is modeled after an Italian square. In the center of the park, there is a reproduction of the turntable used in the Edo period, giving it a historical feel. The park also hosts the Neapolitan Pizza Summit every May, where you can enjoy authentic Neapolitan pizza.

Winds Shiodome

Winds Shiodome is a facility that can be called the centerpiece of Italy Town, and is an off-track sales office operated by the Japan Racing Association. It looks like a stylish office building from the outside, but once you step inside, you’ll be surrounded by the excitement of horse racing fans. There are free non-reserved seats, paid reserved seats, cafes and restaurants, and you can enjoy horse racing all day long. Also, at night, the buildings and roads are lit up, creating a very romantic scenery.

Millefiore

Millefiore is one of the most popular restaurants in Italy, serving European cuisine and wine. The interior of the restaurant is bright and clean, with white as the main color, so you can enjoy your meal in a relaxed atmosphere. The most popular item at the restaurant is the shrimp ajillo, which is a simple yet exquisite dish made with careful attention to ingredients and cooking method.

Motorcycle parking lot in Italy town

There is a reserved parking lot in Italy Town. The parking lot I used was the Shibazonobashi parking lot where you can reserve a parking lot. In this parking lot, you will be notified of your vehicle room number after making a reservation, so you can park in the space with the notified number on the day of your reservation.

summary

This time, I toured from central Tokyo to Italy on a Harley Sports Glide (FLSB). Italy Town is a spot where you can enjoy dining, shopping, events, and more, with a stylish streetscape that you won’t believe is in Japan. If you are going by bike, it is a good idea to check the parking lot in advance. Once you visit Italy Town, it has an unforgettable charm. Please come and try it out by bike.
