[Touring Spot] [Shizuoka Prefecture] Bike trip to Mishima Skywalk! A solo Harley trip to Japan’s longest suspension bridge that both adults and children can enjoy
Hello, this is _hiroyuki.ta. This time, I went to Mishima Skywalk, a popular touring spot in Shizuoka Prefecture.
Mishima Skywalk is Japan’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge, and is a spectacular spot with a panoramic view of Mt. Fuji and Suruga Bay.
I set out on my beloved Harley-Davidson FLSB Sport Glide from a friend’s house in Hachioji City, Tokyo, and arrived at Mishima City via Koshu Kaido, Ken-O Expressway, and Odawara-Atsugi Road.
The tour took about 3 and a half hours, but we had fun while taking breaks along the way. This time, I would like to share my experiences and impressions at Mishima Skywalk.
Mishima Skywalk is a tourist facility that opened in 2013, and its main attraction is a suspension bridge that is 400 meters long and 70 meters high. From the top of the suspension bridge, you can enjoy a panoramic view of Mt. Fuji, Suruga Bay, and the Izu Peninsula. If the weather is good, you can even see Izu Oshima and Niijima in the distance. The suspension bridge is for pedestrians only, so park your bike or car in the parking lot before crossing. Admission to the suspension bridge is 1,100 yen for adults, 500 yen for middle and high school students, and 200 yen for elementary school students. Infants are free.
Mishima Skywalk is recommended as a touring spot in Shizuoka Prefecture. The view of Mt. Fuji and Suruga Bay from the suspension bridge was breathtaking. The suspension bridge sways, so those with a fear of heights should be careful, but if you can overcome that, I think it will be an unforgettable experience. I went on a sunny day, and the sunsets and illuminations are said to be beautiful, so I think you can enjoy different views depending on the time of day. In addition to the suspension bridge, there are many other attractions and facilities, so you can spend a whole day here without getting bored. I think it’s a spot that anyone can enjoy, including family, friends, and couples.
Access and parking to Mishima Skywalk
Mishima Skywalk can be accessed by car or motorcycle, about 30 minutes by heading south on National Route 1 from Numazu IC on the Tomei Expressway. If you are using public transportation, it is approximately 20 minutes by Izu Hakone bus from Mishima Station on the JR Tokaido Main Line. Please refer to the official website for details.
The parking lot can accommodate 400 regular cars and 28 large buses. Parking is free. However, admission may be restricted during busy times. In that case, we recommend using a route bus from Mishima City or Hakone Town. There is also a parking lot for motorcycles, which you can use for free.
This is my touring report at Mishima Skywalk. There are many other wonderful touring spots in Shizuoka Prefecture, so we would like to introduce them to you in the future. See you soon!
