What is Chibanian?

The Chibanian is a newly named geological period that covers the period from approximately 774,000 years ago to 129,000 years ago.

This period is characterized by a reversal of the Earth’s magnetic field.

Chibanian was given its name because this inversion phenomenon was first discovered in the strata along the Yoro River in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture.
