Rainbow Bridge is a new symbol of Tokyo Port, opened in 1993. The length of the bridge is 798 meters, and the height of the tower is 126 meters above sea level. The bridge has a two-tiered structure, with the upper level carrying the Metropolitan Expressway No. 11 Daiba Line, and the lower level carrying the Yurikamome Line, harbor road, and promenade. From the promenade, you can enjoy views of Tokyo Tower, Sky Tree, Mt. Fuji, and more. In addition, at night, it is lit up using electrodeless lamps that have long lifespan, low power consumption, and high brightness. The color of the illumination changes depending on the season and event, but it is usually pink, white, and green to create a rainbow-colored appearance. Therefore, it was given the nickname Rainbow Bridge.

Route to Rainbow Bridge

This time, we arrived at Rainbow Bridge from Ageo City, Saitama Prefecture in about an hour and a half. From National Route 17 and the Shin-Omiya Bypass, I entered Saitama Prefectural Route 124/Shitomo Expressway Omiya Line, via Shuto Expressway No. 5 Ikebukuro Line and Shuto Expressway Inner Loop Line, and then onto Shuto Expressway No. 1 Haneda Line. From there, I took the Shuto Expressway No. 11 Daiba Line, crossed the Rainbow Bridge, and headed towards Odaiba. It took a while due to traffic jams and construction, but it was a comfortable ride. There is a fee to ride on the Shuto Expressway, but if you ride a motorcycle, it’s cheaper and convenient.

Also, from Odaiba, you can see the evening and night views of Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Tower. The illumination of Rainbow Bridge in particular is so beautiful that you’ll want to capture it on camera. Rainbow Bridge is an attractive spot to see and cross from Odaiba.
