I rode my favorite Harley-Davidson FLSB Sport Glide to Kiyosato Plateau, which took about three and a half hours. I will tell you about the situation along with photos.

What is Kiyosato Plateau?

Kiyosato Plateau is a plateau area located in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, at an altitude of 800 to 1000 meters. It is said that the name Kiyosato was named after his hometown of Kiyosato, Hokkaido, by a rancher who moved to this area in the early Showa era. Kiyosato Plateau is a scenic spot where you can see the majestic mountains of the Japanese Alps and Mt. Yatsugatake, and is known as a resort area where you can enjoy cool and refreshing weather in the summer and snowy scenery and skiing in the winter. In addition, Kiyosato Plateau is rich in agricultural products and processed products such as dairy products and vegetables, and there are many specialty products such as cheese, jam, and wine. Kiyosato Plateau is dotted with a variety of facilities, including ranches, farms, restaurants, cafes, art galleries, and museums, and there are so many attractions that you won’t be able to see them all in one day.

Route to Kiyosato Plateau

I went on a motorcycle tour from central Tokyo to Kiyosato Plateau. The starting point is Nihonbashi, central Tokyo. Enter Hakozaki IC from Hakozaki Minatobashi Dori and take Shuto Expressway No. 6 Mukojima Line. At Edobashi JCT, transfer to the Shuto Expressway City Loop Line and drive until Miyakezaka JCT. At Miyakezaka JCT, transfer to the Shuto Expressway No. 4 Shinjuku Line and enter the Chuo Expressway. Drive approximately 160 kilometers on the Chuo Expressway and exit at Nagasaka IC. From Nagasaka IC, turn left on Prefectural Route 32 and enter Prefectural Route 28. Drive approximately 11 kilometers on Prefectural Route 28 and take the exit towards Kiyosato Station. Turn right on Prefectural Route 11 and enter Prefectural Route 615. Drive on Prefectural Route 615 for about 300 meters and turn right. The destination, Kiyosato Kogen Hotel, is located ahead on the left.

This route is about 180 kilometers long and takes about 3 and a half hours. There are service areas and parking areas along the way, so you can take a break while running. The Chuo Expressway runs through mountainous areas, so there are many curves, but the scenery is beautiful and it’s a fun road for bikers. However, please be aware that there is a risk of snow and ice in the winter.

Highlights of Kiyosato Plateau

There are various attractions in Kiyosato Plateau, but I visited the following three spots this time.

Kiyosato Terrace

Kiyosato Terrace is a complex located right near Kiyosato Station. Here you will find shops, restaurants, and cafes that sell special products from Kiyosato Plateau. I bought Kiyosato Highland cheese, jam, wine, etc. here. Especially recommended is the soft serve ice cream made with Kiyosato Kogen milk. It had a rich and creamy taste and was very delicious.

Seisen dormitory

Seisenryo is a representative tourist spot of Kiyosato Plateau. This is a Western-style building built in the early Showa period, and currently operates as a restaurant and cafe. I had lunch here and it had a great atmosphere. The restaurant serves dishes made with vegetables and fruits from the Kiyosato Highlands. I had a hamburger and a salad and it was very juicy and delicious.

Kiyosato Kogen motorcycle parking lot

There are several motorcycle parking lots in Kiyosato Kogen, but I used the following two parking lots.

Kiyosato Terrace parking lot

Kiyosato Terrace Parking Lot is a parking lot located within the premises of Kiyosato Terrace. There is a parking space for motorcycles here. It is free of charge. However, please note that during busy times, the parking lot may be full.

Seisenryo parking lot

Seisenryo Parking Lot is a parking lot located within the grounds of Seisenryo. There is also a parking space for motorcycles here. It is free of charge. However, please note that during busy times, the parking lot may be full.
