What is Gongendo Embankment?

The Gongen-do Embankment is an embankment that was built during the Genroku period (1688-1704) of the Edo period using water flowing from the grounds of a shrine called Gongen-do located between Kokufu in Satte City. This embankment played an important role not only as irrigation water for rice paddies and fields, but also as water for fire prevention and defense. In addition, there are approximately 800 cherry blossom trees planted on both sides of the bank, and you can enjoy a spectacular cherry blossom viewing in spring. The Gongendo Embankment has been designated as a nationally registered monument, and the harmony of history and nature creates a beautiful landscape.

Route to Gongendo Embankment

came. Below is an overview of the route.

  • From Hakozaki Minatobashi Dori and Hakozaki IC, take the 45 Mukojima Line/Shuto Expressway No. 6/Route 6.
  • Enter the Metropolitan Expressway Central Loop Line/C2 and head towards Prefectural Route 383 in Hirasuka, Satte City.
  • Exit the Ken-O Expressway/Metropolitan Central Expressway/National Route 468 at Satte IC.
  • Proceed along Prefectural Route 371 to your destination between Naikokufu and Nakokufu.

The entire trip takes about 1.5 hours and the distance is about 70 km. Along the way, I used expressways such as the Shuto Expressway and the Ken-O Expressway. When driving on expressways, pay attention to your speed and following distance. After getting off the expressway, I drove comfortably while admiring the countryside and old townscapes.

Highlights of Gongendo Embankment

The cherry blossoms on the Gongendo embankment bloom from early to mid-April, and when they are in full bloom, pink petals cover the embankment. The cherry blossom festival is held during this time, and the contrast between cherry blossoms and rape blossoms is spectacular.

There are sidewalks between the fields of rape blossoms, so you can enjoy the cherry blossoms in full bloom while looking at the rape blossoms in your hands.

Motorcycle parking lot at Gongendo Tsutsumi

There is no dedicated parking lot for motorcycles on the Gongendo Tsutsumi, but you can use the parking lot at the Satte City Museum. This parking lot is located at the end of the cherry blossom trees and is free to use. However, the number of parking spaces is limited, so if the parking lot is full, you will need to find a nearby coin parking lot. We also recommend arriving early, as it gets crowded during the cherry blossom season.
