I went on a bike tour to Hakone Turnpike in Kanagawa Prefecture.

This time, we will introduce the charms of Hakone Turnpike and things to keep in mind when traveling by bike.

What is Hakone Turnpike?

Hakone Turnpike is a mountain road that runs from Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture to Yugawara Town, Ashigarashimo District, with an elevation difference of approximately 1000 meters.

Opened in 1961, it is Japan’s oldest toll road, and you can enjoy driving and touring while enjoying Hakone’s rich nature.

Route to Hakone Turnpike

It takes about 2 hours by expressway from central Tokyo to Hakone Turnpike.

The starting point is from Tokyo Station’s Yaesu Exit and run along the Tomei Expressway to Odawara IC.

Enter Hakone Turnpike from Odawara IC and arrive at the Hakone Turnpike summit in about 30 minutes.

Hakone Turnpike motorcycle parking lot

There is a parking lot for motorcycles at the top of Hakone Turnpike.

The parking lot is located near the mountaintop and can accommodate approximately 200 cars.

Parking fee is 2,200 yen round trip.

Hakone Turnpike is also a recommended spot for motorcycle touring.

You can fully enjoy the majestic Mt. Fuji and the rich nature of Hakone.

There are also various tourist spots along the Hakone Turnpike, including Daikanyama Observatory and Hakone Hot Springs.
