I rode a motorcycle and went on a tour to Tsuruga Castle in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture.

This time, we will introduce the charms of Tsuruga Castle and things to keep in mind when visiting by bike.

What is Tsuruga Castle?

Tsuruga Castle is a castle located in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture.

Also known as Wakamatsu Castle, it flourished as the residence of the Aizu clan.

The five-story, six-story castle tower is considered one of Japan’s three most famous castles, and is designated as a national important cultural property.

Route to Tsuruga Castle

It takes about 2 hours from central Tokyo to Tsuruga Castle by expressway.

The starting point is from the Yaesu Exit of Tokyo Station and run along the Tomei Expressway to the Ban’etsu Expressway.

Exit the Ban’etsu Expressway at Aizuwakamatsu IC and follow National Route 49 towards Tsuruga Castle, arriving at Tsuruga Castle in about 30 minutes.

The highlight of Tsuruga Castle is its majestic castle tower.

The five-story, six-story castle tower is 57 meters high and offers a panoramic view of Aizuwakamatsu city.

In addition, materials related to the Aizu clan are displayed inside the castle tower.

Tsurugajo motorcycle parking lot

Tsurugajo has a parking lot for motorcycles.

The parking lot is located on the west side of Tsuruga Castle and can accommodate approximately 50 cars.

Parking fee is free.
